About project

The office space is a large foot print with the design intent of having the raw structure & services exposed. With over 200 staff members acoustic performance was essential for the space. The stringent acoustic requirements were met with Décortech's custom broken glass perforated ceiling tiles.

The CHallEnge

The Challenge was to create a myriad of small holes, slots and other architectural aesthetic accents in fire-resistant material. An incredible amount of heat is generated when cutting fire-resistant material and this is compounded when cutting fine patterns and details with the small diameter cutters required for this operation. Finding a tool to absorb the heat generated by the cutters was priority for this project.

THE SOLUTION

PCD Dimond single flute compression cutters were the perfect solution for the Décortech Team to use. The diamond tips on these cutters were hard enough to provide a longer cutting time on the very abrasive material.

The high-density steel shanks were able to withstand the cutting forces & heat generated, while the use of single flute style cutters meant that there was more space for chip extraction.
